Packaging Supervisor

Saputo Cheese - Lancaster is looking for dynamic, hard-working, packaging supervisor to join our team!
The Packaging Supervisor directly leads team members to maximize productivity and achieve established company and plant goals. This includes planning, assigning and directing work, addressing product and employee complaints and resolving problems. This key individual carries out supervisory responsibilities through the following job functions in accordance with the Company's policies, OSHA regulations and applicable laws.
Essential Job Functions:
Collaborate with plant management, supervisors and packaging team to coordinate, assign, direct, review and monitor activities of supervised staff to maximize productivity, quality and maintain cost within assigned areas.
Oversee and ensure packaging targets are achieved within assigned timeframes through effective leadership, planning, scheduling, consistent and decisive decisions, communication, and training.
Effectively monitor and reinforce packaging requirements with staff (i.e. cheese appearance/texture/flavors, technique, finished product presentation, etc.).
Ensure packaging, safety, GMPs and sanitation procedures are in place, understood and adhered to by all employees; conducting appropriate re-training when deficiencies are present.
Inspect product and product packaging for conformance to specifications; directing set-up and adjustments to machines, processes, etc. as required.
Recommend improvements to production/packaging methods, equipment performance and overall product quality.
Understanding of cost containment and budgetary principles; managing departmental function in accordance.
Work closely with QA, R&D, and engineering on various projects and initiatives, as assigned.
Coordinate and conduct ongoing departmental training efforts (i.e. SOPs, SSOPs, safety, etc.) and monitor work performance for comprehension.
Monitor the work area to ensure that a safe environment is maintained and all plant safety rules are understood and followed. Promote a culture of ownership through open communication.
Help to ensure facility is audit ready as it relates to food safety, quality and other areas of focus.
Accurate and timely completion of assigned reports, paperwork, including production records, Master Cleaning Sanitation Lists, schedules, accident reports and investigations, and any other paperwork deemed necessary.
Provide supervision of assigned employees in scheduling and daily activities, ensuring effective selection, retention, feedback, disciplinary action and performance management.
Lead problem solving efforts through the facilitation of team meetings and on-the-floor leadership. Analyze and resolve work problems in a timely manner, or assist team members in solving work problems. Communicate any issues to Plant Manager, Quality Assurance, Human Resources and/or Maintenance department as needed.
Provide proactive supervision in all daily activities; assisting employees in reaching their full potential by demonstrating, teaching, reviewing, and providing ongoing guidance.
Ensure consistent application of company policies and procedures. Support employee performance coaching activities in partnership with Human Resources.
Train and instruct employees regarding production and equipment standards and processes. Oversee instruction, implementation and enforcement of policies as they relate to employees.
Participate in the cheese grading process (i.e. sight, smell, taste, texture); providing feedback to appropriate contacts in an effort to continuously improve the overall customer experience.
Adhere to and promote the Saputo Code of Ethics and actively apply the Saputo Values.
Perform miscellaneous leadership duties and responsibilities as required.
Job Requirements
Preferred Qualifications:
Degree preferred in Supervisory Management, Business Management, Operations Management, Food Science or similar field, or equivalent experience within the cheese/dairy industry.
One to three years of supervisory experience in a dairy or food manufacturing environment.
Experience leading and following Safety/Security Policies and Procedures.
Familiarity with Good Manufacturing Practices and HACCP principles.
Fundamental understanding of packaging process (including QA protocols, cheese allocation, ingredient monitoring, equipment, scheduling/staffing, etc.).
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions.
Ability to evaluate processes and determine the most efficient method of accomplishing set goals.
Ability to select, lead, coach, influence, motivate, develop, engage and retain team members.
Ability to evaluate personnel and their abilities in order to best utilize the available workforce.
Ability to work flexible hours including weekends in support of plant operations.
Excellent verbal/written communication skills. High degree of tact, diplomacy and discretion.
Strong team player and leader with the ability to work across multiple functions and disciplines.
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, Maestro (AS400), SAP and other computer-based applications.

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
